Kids room design in Lucknow

A room that grows up.

The mistake in a children’s room is designing for the child they are now. Cartoon shutters look wonderful at six and embarrassing at eleven.

What we plan

Storage that adapts — adjustable shelving and hanging.

Study space — desk height and lighting planned properly.

Safety — rounded edges, secured tall units.

Designing for the next ten years

The way to build a room that lasts is to keep the expensive parts neutral and the cheap parts changeable.

Carcass, shutters and the bed are the costly items, so they stay plain. Personality comes from bedding, wall art, a painted wall and decals, all of which can change in an afternoon when tastes move on.

Adjustable shelving — shelves on a standard 32mm pitch can be moved as what needs storing changes from toys to books to files.

Hanging rail — set low enough that a small child can reach their own clothes, with the fixing points already in place to raise it later.

The bed — a 90cm single is right for a young child, but it is worth checking the room can take a 120cm bed later without redoing the wardrobe.

Study light and screen position

Most children’s desks are placed facing a window because it looks pleasant. It is the one position that guarantees glare.

A desk beside the window, with light coming across it, works far better. For a right-handed child, the task light belongs on the left, so the writing hand does not cast a shadow over the page.

Colour temperature matters more than people expect. Around 4000K keeps a child alert at a desk, while the rest of the room stays warmer for winding down. Putting those on separate switches means one room can do both jobs.

Sockets go above desk height rather than behind furniture, so chargers and lamps are not being fished out from under a bed.

Safety and surfaces

A few decisions here are worth being firm about.

Any tall unit gets anchored to the wall, without exception. Soft-close hinges and channels stop shutters and drawers catching fingers. Exposed edges are rounded rather than square, particularly at a child’s head height.

On surfaces, a wipeable laminate at low level survives what paint does not, and it is the difference between cleaning a wall and repainting it. We keep glass out of the room where an alternative exists, and specify low-VOC finishes for a space someone sleeps in every night.

Our work

Often planned at the same time

Wardrobe and storage design in Lucknow — Adjustable shelving and a rail that can be raised later are what let the room grow with the child.

Bedroom interior design in Lucknow — The clearances and switching logic are the same, applied to a smaller room.

Home office design in Lucknow — A study desk in a child’s room follows the same rules on desk height, glare and task light.
